About This Trail
The arboretum begins in the Peril park across the Aldine-Westfield road. The loop can be easily accessed from either end of the park's east or west side parking areas. The trail forms a series of loops in the woods. The path is well maintained and shaded by a forest of water oak, sweet gum and yaupon brush. The oxbow lake is located on the east side of the loop and is surrounded by bald cypress trees. The trail leads you to a boardwalk through a swamp where you can see lizards and snakes. The woods are buggy at times with all the water features and brush. It is possible to combine a hike in a natural setting with a tour of the botanical gardens.
