About This Trail
The Civil War massacre of five free state men by proslavery men in a ravine is now listed as a National historic landmark. The massacre was a key event in the "Bleeding Kansas" era. John Brown came to the site a few months later and built a fortified cabin. It's a good idea to walk the grounds of the sites and see the tensions during the time of territorial Kansas.
