About This Trail

The McClory Trail is a local trail system that connects with other trails in Lyons Woods. This preserve has a mix of terrain. It's a great place to move from pine grove to prairie to oak woodlands. It's easy to see a variety of bird species on an observation deck. Lyons Woods is diverse, with savanna, woodland and fen. Dropseed, big bluestem and goldenrod are some of the plants found in the prairie. There are large stands of oaks in the woods. Lyons Woods is named after the Lyons family. Lyons came from Massachusetts in the 19th century. He was an elected official and the owner of a grocery and dry goods store.
