About This Trail

Imported description
Lowami Hart Woods Natural Area is a 28-acre forested and wetland natural area that was redeveloped by the district in 2013 and reopened in January 2014. Located on SW Hart Rd. -- between SW Murray Blvd. and SW 155th Ave. in the West Beaverton -- this natural area is a destination for walking and wildlife viewing, especially birds. The natural area is the former site of Camp Lowami, operated by the Camp Fire Girls of America (1956-1994). The camp’s original flagpole sits in an environmental education meeting spot near the existing bridge that crosses South Johnson Creek. The Fir Loop Trail, which begins at the new parking lot on SW Hart Rd., includes a large viewing deck looking into the forest. From there, visitors can follow the Snowberry Trail deeper into the natural area, coming across the Johnston Creek, lowland deciduous forest, and the Wahoo Trail. This trail extends north-south through the whole park, with a new bridge that was constructed on the southern end of the trail near a pedestrian access point from SW Hart Rd. On the north end, from SW Barcelona Wy., is another access point, through Brookhaven Woods Natural Area.
