Little Clifty Creek Loop

Excellent biking with steep climbs and drops, some gravel, some hard packed dirt. You're always relatively close to a sign, which is wonderful. The trails are well maintained and the maps are excellent. You can add on the War Eagle Valley Loop, which is great with steep tight switch backs and some fun straight downhill with challenging climbs. Little Clifty has the best flow. The other two loops off Little Clifty are quick drops to almost lake level with fast downhill and challenging climbs. Ride clockwise or counterclockwise, both directions are fun. It's a little gravelly in places, but this is a great trial nonetheless. This is a complex series of trails, with access from several parking lots, and from turn-outs along two roads. These trails are used by hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders alike. None are overused. The main parking lot has restroom facilities and water. The trails can be used in a number of different combinations resulting in hikes that can vary from a few miles to over 16. Little Clifty Creek is the central feature of the trail system, with foot bridges over to both the north and the south. The War Eagle loop, approximately six miles, has great views of War Eagle Creek, with several benches for sitting on a nice day. There is even a side trail that takes you to the Hobbs Visitor Center. The trails are very well maintained, with significant elevation changes from the parking lot to Clifty Creek. There are sign-in's at the trailheads, and maps available at the sign-in stations. The parking lots are gated, and closed during night hours. There is also a parking lot for parking horse trailers.
