About This Trail

Imported description
Lakeshore Loop Trail is one of the nature trails in Heyburn State Park. Although this trail is rather short, it is one of the best places in North Idaho to spot a moose. Lakeshore Trail begins at Hawley’s Landing Campground and takes you to the Plummer Creek Marsh Wildlife Viewing Area. This segment of the trail has no significant grade and is easily hiked by people of all ages. Those hikers who do not wish to continue on to the Plummer Creek Trail may take the adjacent, marked fire road to the left of the Plummer Creek Trail sign. The road makes a 1.1 mile loop back to the entrance to Hawley’s Landing Campground. The fire road has moderate grades through stands of lodgepole pine and Western red cedar. Hike along the shoreline of Chatcolet Lake from Hawley’s Landing Campground to the Indian Cliffs Trailhead. Along the way, make a side trip on the boardwalk out into Plummer Creek Marsh. Then return along the forested hillside above the lake. There is a boardwalk and interpretive trail at Plummer Creek Marsh. This is an excellent place to spot waterfowl and other marsh animals.
