About This Trail

The Lower Mississippi River is a big wild river with a main channel varying from 1/2 mile wide to over 3 miles wide during high water. If you want to return to the Mississippi near the Arkansas, you can paddle up some back channels. The Lower Mississippi varies 50 vertical feet and so the landings, boat ramps, islands, campsites, sandbars and other landmarks change from season to season. Before you embark on a canoe trip, check the river gages. The White River confluence, Great River Road State Park, and the Arkansas River confluence were highlights.
