About This Trail
The most beloved park in Seattle. It loops around Green Lake. The VashonGlacial Ice Sheet is believed to have formed Green Lake 50,000 years ago. Dredgings of Green Lake produced volcanic ash from an eruption of Glacier Peak. The lake was given to the City by the State of Washington in 1905. Green Lake went through a number of changes over the course of 15 years. The last fill was deposited in Green Lake. Green Lake has experienced pollution problems and algae blooms in recent times. Those who swim in the lake are still considering the effects of milfoil and swimmers itch.
