About This Trail

Imported description
A tour along the beachfront through Fort Lauderdale starts at a pier and stops at a state park and aquatic museum. This is why you've come to Fort Lauderdale- it's home to some of the USA's most beautiful beaches. This beachfront walking tour starts in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, a quaint beach village on the northern end of Fort Lauderdale. It's got a pier that's popular with both local fishermen and tourists. A sunrise stop here is a great start to a beach vacation in Fort Lauderdale. The route heads south to Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, an incredibly large preserved wilderness right in the middle of the busiest section of Fort Lauderdale beach. A visit here is a great opportunity to see what "Old Florida" looked like before the developers arrived. Continue south to the beachfront promenade known as "the Strip." This legendary beachfront area was the headquarters of the spring break party for generations of college kids. In the 1990s, the city of Fort Lauderdale decided the party was getting out of control. Stricter ordinances for bars and a new pedestrian brick path and decorative concrete wave wall made the Strip more family-friendly. There's still a party atmosphere, but strollers and toddlers are as abundant as college kids now. The beach tour then stops at the International Swimming Hall of Fame and concludes at one of Fort Lauderdale's most beautiful beaches, South Beach Park.
