About This Trail

Eshqua Bog is a two-acre fen that dates back to the post-glacial era. There are a variety of plants in this preserve, including labrador tea, cotton grass, pitcher plants, showy lady's slipper, larches and buckbean. This tiny 40.8-acre preserve, circling the mere speck of an 8-acre bog, explodes with color, texture, shapes and scents in the springtime. The wild orchids are the most stunning. There are hundreds of showy lady's slippers in the wetlands. The pink lady's slipper is one of the more common orchids here.
