About This Trail

Imported description
Parking is available at the Scutt Road lot, or drive into the North South Lake Campground and park at the west end of South Lake. This trail is an easy walk with many things to see. If you take South Lake Road instead of the trail that runs parallel to it, you will pass a large pavilion. Behind the pavilion is a beach and restrooms. If you're not interested in the beach, just continue on the trail to the old Mountain House site, offering breathtaking views of the Hudson valley, and some signs with historic information. From the Mountain House site, continue along the trail (follow signs) for Boulder Rock. This is the only remotely challenging part of the hike that involves a small elevation gain, but it is less than half a mile and is worth the effort. From Boulder Rock, continue west on the old Scutt carriage road. The trail up and around the summit is little more than a herd trail and is practically a bushwhack, but it's very easy and a short distance. You'll know you've reached the summit when you see the old stone foundation of a structure. Continue back on the old Scutt carriage road and head all the way to the top of Kaaterskill falls. Please use extreme caution near the falls. Double back to whichever parking lot you used.
