About This Trail
The Chicago area was buried in up to 3000 feet of ice over a period of ten to twenty thousand years. The landscape surrounding the lake and the lake itself will show evidence of the movement of glaciers. The kettle lake is a steep bowl shaped hole in the ground that was formed by a leftover chunk of melting ice.
