About This Trail
Capulin Volcano is not crowded in the fall and winter. In January and February, the number of people visiting is the lowest. It is highest in April through September. The busiest month at the park is July. Traffic control can cause delays in visiting the volcano rim on busy summer weekends. The cinder cone of an extinct volcano is the Capulin Volcano National Monument. The highway is located north of Capulin and east of interstate 25. The parking lot, restrooms, and two trails are at the top of the cone. The rim trail has great views of the volcanic landscape. The largest shield volcano in the area is Sierra Grande.
