Confederate Memorial Park Loop

It was an educational and relaxing hike. The hike starts from the parking area. The trail is marked and there are many signs along the way. The information on the history of the area is given on the placards. There are also quizzes to keep you thinking. There are markers that show the name and species of the tree. The only Confederate veterans home in Alabama is located at the Confederate Memorial Park. The facility was used for the care of elderly veterans, wives of veterans and even the widows of veterans. More than three hundred residents of the veterans home are buried in the park's two original cemeteries. An extensive collection of uniforms, weapons, equipment and other items associated with the Civil War can be found in a museum building.
