About This Trail

Most park roads are closed in the winter, which makes it necessary to find a parking spot at a closed gate. It is amazing to see various wildlife at the summit. Hike is very strenuous and continuous and starts along a gravel service road. Largehorn sheep are often seen in the area. There are conditions at the top where you may want to wear a windbreaker or jacket. You don't have to forget rain gear at this elevation. A viewing telescope, benches, pay phone, and interpretive information are available at the fire lookout at the summit. It is a challenging hike but you will get the best views at the summit.
