Changing Canyon Trail

Very short, educational nice loop trail through aspens to stream & beaver pond This trail is the best opportunity to let the kids and grandma out of the car, and experience what the canyon is like; without having to hike far. This is a very well signed, self-guided, interpretative trail which is in excellent condition and winds through quaking aspen, chokecherry, and sedge. Filled with bird life ranging from woodpeckers, warblers, and hawks, this little trail is lively and filled with things to see. NDOW (Nevada Div. of Wildlife) provides a very nice, descriptive brochure which correlates to signed numbers along the trail, and explains just what you're looking at. Mountain mahogany, sagebrush, and balsamroot indicate the drier areas along the trail, and lead the way to the beaver habitat, where teeth marks are evidence of recent activity. Elderberry and columbine fill areas, which attract hummingbirds and waxwing. Enjoy the stillness of the beaver ponds along the stream, which often provides unfrozen water for game in mid-winter.
