About This Trail

The Civil War and the wooded trails were mentioned. Robert E. Lee's greatest victory in the Civil War was achieved in the thickets of the Wilderness. Lee's 60,000 man army battled a force that was twice its size across miles of wooded terrain. It was the third costliest battle of the entrie war, as it was the only battle where Jackson was mortally wounded. The final Union defensive line and parts of the May 3rd battlefield are encompassed by this loop trail. Blue blazes on trees and mowed paths mark the route. Maps and signs will help you understand what happened here.
