About This Trail
The nature reserve is dominated by mature woods. The yellow birch, cherry Birch and eastern hemlock grow on the north side. The name Blackhand was derived from a Native American petroglyph that was engraved on the north side of the river. The engraving was destroyed when the cliff face was destroyed during the construction of the Ohio-Erie Canal. The trail is asphalt with some rough spots. The trail crosses a bridge that may be difficult to navigate when the water is high.
