About This Trail

There is a short loop around the pond. The Betty Allen Nature Preserve has a trail that leads around the central pond, which is home to swans, ducks, and other animals. The preserve was named after Betty Allen, an environmental activist. The pond was formed by the damming of nearby streams. The land was purchased with a 50% matching grant from the Federal Land and Water Conservancy Fund. A new dam and fish ladder were installed in order to allow alewives to travel into the pond and provide people with new opportunities for fishing.
