About

Imported description
Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary provides protection to the maritime heritage that lies below the water surface. Partnerships with the local community, the state of Wisconsin, and NOAA aid in keeping these historical waters protected and provide new opportunities for research, resource protection, and education. The 36 historic shipwrecks in the sanctuary have stories that tie into the growth of the nation between the 1830s and 1930s. This collection of steamships and schooners educate visitors of the story that made the expansion possible. Visitors can enjoy this sanctuary by kayaking along the river or boating across the water surface to see this beautiful piece of history.
