About

Big Lagoon State Park is a 706.76-acre Florida State Park located on the northwestern coast of Florida, about 10 miles southwest of Pensacola. The park was first acquired in 1977 and is named for the large lagoon that forms part of its northern boundary, where the waters snake toward Pensacola Bay. Its distinctive features include the diverse ecosystems of coastal wetlands, estuaries, and pine forests, as well as the alligator-inhabited Long Pond, which adds to the park's unique wildlife habitat. Visitors to Big Lagoon State Park can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, fishing, and kayaking. The park offers access to the lagoon, making it a suitable spot for water-based activities. Parking is available on-site, but it’s advisable to check local weather conditions before visiting, as the area can be subject to changes in weather. The park's remoteness adds to its charm, providing a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. Be sure to verify hours, fees, and any potential closures on the official state site before your visit.
