This trailhead is located on Highway 93, west of Carter Meadows Summit.Leaving the trailhead, Trail #5521 follows the Trail Creek drainage and meets the Pacific Crest Trail. The PCT goes southeast toward Carter Meadows Summit, or north into the Russian Wilderness.
