About

**River Forks Park & Campground will be closed from 1/3/22 to 2/28/22 due to electrical work being completed in the park. Once the projected work is completed, the park will reopen.** Overview Located at Hartwell Lake, one of the southeasts largest and most popular public recreation areas, River Forks is a summer day-use area that offers an ideal setting for a party, barbecue or simply a day of water activities with the family. River Forks boasts sweeping views of the nearly 56,000 acres of water that comprise Hartwell Lake and plenty of space to relax by the water on the large, sandy swimming beach. Natural Features: Hartwell Lake is a man-made lake bordering Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah, Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers. The dam and lake area boasts nine campgrounds and 15 day-use facilities that are operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Surrounding vegetation allows for plenty of shade, and the 962 miles of shoreline provide numerous swimming beaches, picnic areas and boat ramps. Recreation: Boating and water sports top the list of popular activities. A two-lane boat ramp is available year-round for visitors convenience, and three designated swim beaches surround the coastline. Facilities: River Forks offers multiple picnic areas, complete with shelters, flush toilets and playgrounds. Parking is available on-site. Large groups can also be accommodated by reserving Loop A in advance for $150. Nearby Attractions: Sadlers Creek State Park is just down Highway 187 and offers hiking and biking, including a 5.4 mile scenic, loop bike trail that follows the lake shore.
