About

This state park's name can be translated to “apple of the earth”. And it truly is. Pomme De Terre State Park offers a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation. The marina and boat ramps make it easy to get in the water and cast a line out for a variety of fish such as bass, walleye, catfish, crappie–and it is the only place in Missouri where you can catch a muskie! There are also two public swimming beaches that make for great places to cool off after a long hike or for relaxing the day away. Stunning grasslands, huge open savannas, and gorgeous lakeside beaches are also calling your name. In addition to the lake, the park is home to two hiking trails that wind through several scenic areas. Indian Point Trail is located in Pittsburg, and is a 3.2 mile loop trail. The other is a 2 mile long trail called the Cedar Bluff trail, which is located on the Hermitage side of the park. Picnic sites that are scattered throughout the forest provide a pleasant place to rest or enjoy a meal. The park's two campgrounds are located on either side of the lake: the Pittsburg and Hermitage campgrounds. Collectively, they offer 250 campsites that are ideal for multi-day visits. Playgrounds, ball courts, a baseball diamond, and even a swimming beach make it difficult to limit your stay to just a day or two. A reservation fee of $8.50 applies to each site you reserve. The campgrounds are fully reservable. Reservable sites may be available to first-come, first-served users on a day-by-day basis if the site is not reserved. The dump station, showerhouse and water are turned off during the off-season (November through March). A frost free spigot is available near the entrance of the Pittsburg Area Campground. Campers planning to carry in firewood must comply with current firewood advisories. Parking of watercraft or all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trailers off of the campsite pad (usually in the grass) is permitted at this facility.
