About
It is rare in Utah to see a cluster of lava logs from 30 million years ago. Thelogs were formed when a lava flow cooled into columnar joints. The columns can measure up to 15 feet in length. The formation collapsed on the rim of the caldera because of a void left when lava flowed out. The formation tilt onto its side due to the basin and range faulting. The formation we now see has been exposed by erosion.
