The Jeffrey forest is recommended as a dispersed camping area. You need a permits if you want to burn any fire, and put up a propane stove or lantern. Only a permit is required to camp on the islands. Camping is not permitted in developed areas such as South TuFA. There are permits for use at the Mono Basin Visitor Center.
