Mike Freeze Wattensaw WMA

There are 38 primitive campsites that are maintained by area personnel. There are over a thousand acres of old fields that are managed on a rotation basis. There are 14,409 acres of timber, which is mostly oak and hickory, in streams, ponds and lakes. The main streams include Wattensaw Bayou, Hurricane Creek, Miller Creek, Clark Creek, Barkley Branch and Bell Branch. The oxbow lakes off the White River on the east side of the area are created by removing dirt for I-40 construction.
