The historic town of Madrid and the mesa can be reached from the campsites. RV's and tents are the best at site 1 compared to the tents and smaller vehicles at site 2. It is a short way to the site from the hill. The dirt and rock can be intimidating, but things like automobiles and motorcycles can still be reached in a car. The mesa views are nice and there is an outhouse next to it. There are many places to go outdoors on foot or by other means. Both towns have rich histories from the ocean to the coalmining industries.
