Madera Canyon Picnic Area

The northwest face of the Santa Rita Mountains is made of a large dent by Madera Canyon. It gives relief to desert dwellers during the hot months and allows access to snow during the winter. The extensive trail system of the Santa Rita Mountains is easily accessed from the Canyon's campground and picnic areas, which is a world-famous location for bird watching. The history of Madera Canyon is long and colorful. The Friends of Madera Canyon have a booklet that can be requested at the gatehouse.
