About

The Macks Canyon archaeological site is located in north-central Oregon. The site is characterized by shallow, circular, semi-subterranean house depressions. The site was the location of a winter village occupied by the people of the Columbia Plateau. The site may have been occupied as early as 5,000 BC, despite the main period of occupation being within the last 2,000 years. The Access Road leads to a campground and boat ramp on the east bank of the Lower Deschutes River. The route to Macks Canyon is a national back country byway. The archaeological site does not have accessible facilities. The nearby campground has accessible toilets, parking and a campsite.
