About

The Glory Hole Recreation Area is located on a river and it is outdoors. The lake is the fourth largest in California and it is located near a famous gold vein which caused the California Gold Rush of 1849. The 100 miles of shoreline are encompassed by the diversity and resource-abundant FOOTHILL ISLANDS. There are lots of things to do on and around the large, yet uncrowded lake. It has year-round interpretive events and a museum. The Sierra Nevada is accessible via a camping area called New Melones Lake.
