The Indiana dunes area was fought to have it preserved by scientists, recreationists, and nature enthusiasts. The state park was established because of the large sand dunes, which have taken thousands of years to form. The park has a wide range of habitats and plant species. habitats provide homes for many types of plants and animals. The lake has a habitat for many aquatic species and a constantly changing fishery.
