Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site - CLOSED DUE TO WILDFIRES

**Elkhorn Valley and Canyon Creek Recreation Sites are closed.** (Updated Nov 2022) The Bureau of Land Management has confirmed that Elkhorn Valley and Canyon Creek were heavily damaged by wildfire. For additional fire closures and restrictions within the Northwest Oregon District, visit https://www.blm.gov/programs/public-safety-and-fire/fire-and-aviation/regional-info/oregon-washington/fire-restrictions Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site, located within the Little North Santiam Recreation Area, offers overnight camping and day-use recreation opportunities along a beautiful stretch of the Little North Santiam River east of Salem. Trails along the river give visitors access to swimming holes and fishing. Elkhorn Valley is an excellent basecamp for trips along the Little North Fork Santiam including Opal Creek. Recreation Come to Elkhorn Valley to relax with family and friends, camp, picnic, cool off, hike or fish. Or you can use Elkhorn Valley as a base for many other adventures nearby. Facilities The site offers 23 family campsites with fire pit, some with a barbecue grill attached, picnic table, tent pad, and designated paved parking. The site also offers four picnic sites, vault toilets, potable water, campground hosts, security gate, hiking trails and river access. No hookups are available. Natural Features During your stay, view the deep emerald pools, surrounding cliffs, waterfalls and old-growth forest. Enjoy some of the best swimming in Oregon by cooling off in the refreshing Little North Santiam River on a hot summer day. Nearby Attractions Nearby you can visit North Fork County Park (Marion County), Canyon Creek Recreation Site (Bureau of Land Management), and Bear Creek Campground (Marion County). Along Forest Road 2209 in the Willamette National Forest visit Three Pools, Shady Cove, Opal Creek Wilderness, and Jawbone Flats. Fishermen's Bend Recreation Site is a Bureau of Land Management campground and day-use site along Hwy 22 closer to Mill City where you can camp, picnic, hold events and gatherings, relax, cool off, fish and put in a non-motorized boat.
