About
The Charles C. Deam Wilderness has 36 miles of trails for hiking, backpacking, and horse riding through a scenic hardwood forest. The area was designated a wilderness in 1982. The area is in a special legal status due to the 1964 Wilderness Act. The designation of a wilderness increased visitor use to a point that was causing damage. There are special restrictions in place to protect the wilderness character. Visitors to this special place are asked to follow restrictions to help preserve the natural resource.
