It is possible to camp outside of developed areas in the national forest for free. You should stop in to one of the ranger stations to get a free travel management map so that you are aware of where vehicles are and are not allowed. To camp outside developed areas, be sure to bring enough water or a water source that can be used for purification. No permits are required for camping in wilderness areas. It is designated as a day use only area.
