About This Trail
There is no way to get into the crater. A state park is $18 for adults and offers tours, but there are not any going into the crater. There's an interactive museum and a wall of fame for astronauts. The place is good for taking the kids and getting cool pictures, but not for hiking around the crater. I-40 leads to the best preserved meteorite impact site in Northern Arizona. It was a collision of an asteroid and planet Earth 50,000 years ago that made the crater. Today the crater is nearly one mile across and over two miles in diameter. It has an outdoor observation trails, an indoor movie theater, an interactive discovery center and gift shop located on the crater rim.
