About This Trail
The nature of the park allows for a wide range of sport activities from fossil hunting to hiking and kayaking on the shoreline. The cliffs and the shores are home to many fossils from the Miocene era, more than 10 million years ago. When southern Maryland was under a shallow sea, the cliffs were formed. It is very easy to hike the mileage you want on most trails. Water proof maps can be purchased at the state park web site. The Red Trail is 3.6 miles and the Blue Trail is 2.2 miles. It is possible to fossilise on the sandy beach but swimming is not allowed.
