About This Trail
The park was established when local citizens came together to promote the hammock as a candidate for national park status. The beginnings of a botanical garden and additional park facilities were created by the Civilian Corps during the Great Depression. Many visitors enjoy hiking or biking along the parks nine trails. The elevated boardwalk goes through the cypress swamp. The park is popular with picnicking and ranger-guided tours. Highlands Hammock has a full-facility campground and a youth/group tent campground. There are several picnic pavilions that can be rented. The museum is open 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It is located on County Road 634.
