About This Trail
This is an off-road trail. The discovery of the lubricating quality of oil in the 1860s brought about a new aspect of Johnson County's mineral wealth. The early settlers in Johnson County had seen the natural oil seepages. James Stafford organized a group of people to explore oil and mineral resources. The community of Oil Springs was established during this time. The trails and roads are there because of the mineral wealth.
